Acting Major O’Kill Massey Learmonth, was killed at the Battle of Hill 70. His medals came into the possession of the Governor General’s Foot Guards as the Regiment that perpetuates the 2nd Battalion, CEF. Learmonth joined the Iron Second as a Private and saw action throughout the War until the fateful day when he commanded on the companies at Hill 70 repelling German counter-attacks with personal heroism and defiance.
